Who We Are

 Who is a Member?

Members of the Alliance are:

  • Chief Nurses and/or Midwives, or their equivalent, from the South Pacific Nations,
  • representatives of education institutions,
  • representatives of organisations who contribute to the objectives of the Alliance, and
  • represenatitves of regulatory authorities.

A Chief Nursing and/or Midwifery Officer is appointed by the government to the role of providing official advice on nursing and/or midwifery related issues.  Member countries are Australia, the Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Wallis and Futuna.

Educational representatives 

Nurse and midwifery educators play an essential role in developing, researching and evaluating policy and practice, and the SPCNMOA provides for full membership for representatives of any academic institution. Membership is determined by the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers who are members of the Alliance.

Regulation Representatives

The Alliance acknowledges the issue of the regulation of health workers as a potential barrier to health system development.  Therefore this issue has been a priority for the Alliance since 2008.  The SPCNMOA provides full membership for representatives working in the area of health care worker regulation.
